SB engine died on way out, fuel pump?

2000 Formula 400ss with twin 502 bravo lll drives.

15 minutes into our cruise yesterday the SB motor died. It cranks like normal but won’t start. Am I correct to think it’s the fuel pump based on the following video?

You may need to turn up the volume.

When key is turned ON before start do you get 2 beeps and hear the fuel pump run?

With it just dying, might check the ignition fuse/breaker.

Could use a serial number to verify but pretty sure a 2000 should be a MEFI-3 MPI

On top the motor look for small square relays next to the ECM. Next to relays will also be a fuse container, about 1.5 high by 3 inch long and kind of thin. The bottom will have wires coming out and the top of it comes off. Under it are fuses

If you don't see the one long one might see individual fuses caps

I switched them from one engine to the other and still no spooling up pressure noise on the SB engine.

Your getting the beeps which means the main power relay (MPR) is energizing. Once that happens the ECM applies a ground to one side of the fuel pump (FP) relay to turn it ON.

The square relays on the motor are all the same. Swap the relays and see if you still hear the 2 beeps. If you hear the beeps then it's not the relay, it comes back to either power to the FP relay or the ground is not being applied by the ECM

If you hear the beeps, measure to see if 12V is on the 2 pins with Pink wires. With key ON there should be power.

If there is power on Pink wires measure the Gry/White wire which comes from the ECM. When key is turned ON there should be 12V then 0V as the ECM applies a ground, then it will go back to 12V when ground is removed.

The other gray wire on the relay goes to the fuel pump. You can hot wire 12V direct and the pump should run

Just verified that it not the pump. I pulled the connection to it and fed it 12 volts and it made noise like it’s working.

One of the pink wires comes direct from the MPR, the other comes thru a fuse for the FP

To not have power on either then there is a break in connection, blown fuse or both. The weird thing is how are you getting the 2 beeps if no power is coming thru MPR?

Maybe I've been messing with the wrong thing. You mentioned item number 13, but I’ve been messing with the relay item number 11. Can someone provide a picture of the item number 13 please. I can’t seem to post any pictures.

The pink wires under relay should be measured between pink and ground

I AM AN IDIOT!

I went back and reread alldodges post several times and figured out where the fuses he was referring to are. It was a 15 amp fuse exactly were he said to look. $3 for new fuse and I’m back in business.
