Re: sank motor need advice
Erik,
How long has it been since you sank it? Was it salt water?
When I sank mine one time, I took it home, blew the water out of the ignition with compressed air, took the plugs out and pulled it over a few times to clear the water out of the cylinders, cleaned the float bowl on the carb out, and blew some wD40 into the carb throat and sprayed some through the plug holes, too. I then let it sit for about 10 minutes, turned it over a few more times, cleaned and dried the spark plugs, reinstalled and cranked it up. I let it run in the tank for about 30 minutes to let the heat clear all the water out and let the fuel/oil mix lubricate the internals good.
I've never heard of one backstroking, and there are no valves to bend so I don't know what's going on there. Do you have your plug wires crossed?
I would try to crank it up as soon as possible, but if it's been over a day since you sank it, you could be looking at some corrosion problems.
Good luck,
JBJ
