It is in your own state constitution Baldguy. That is why SF won't pull it off.

Gee guys, move up here where guns are highly regulated; and, handguns are next to baned (even more regulations). Problem is criminals have handguns, no registration (duh) but they don't care. There is as large a % of crimes per pop done with handguns up here as in the states.

They have spent over a billion (projected to be 2 billion before completion) on a gun registry that law enforcement says won't work. But the politician's want the appearance of doing something about it. 'If I say I'm working on the problem you can't criticize me for the problem'. Some are now saying it's the problem of easy access to guns in the US that is creating the problem -- many come from the US. By the way in the US dealers can't sell to foreigners.

Matttt25, my nephew had 2 handguns (yes he jumped through the hoops to get the licenses) stolen. Comments by the cops were they will recover them some time - at a crime scene.

There used to be one exception to this: they could sell to staff at an embassy who worked there in their security services, if their embassy completed and provided all of the appropriate paperwork. Don't know if this exception still exists.

Banning personal firearm ownership is the equivilent of rolling out the red carpet for the criminals. If I'm a crook I'll be a lot bolder in the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts than I would in say, Texas. I just don't understand how anyone could possibly think gun bans will keep criminals from getting/useing them.

Very true, many people forget or never knew that one of the first steps in Hitler's plan was instituting a national (germany) gun ban to make the country more civilized.

Like has been said before, Governments are meant to fear the armed citizens.

and that is EXACTLY the intent of the 2nd Ammendment...

Our Forefathers were smart enough to see into the future...what oppresive govt's can do.....it's up to you and I to keep them from taking our rights away.

I sure won't be voluntarily handing over my guns!

Hitler had to 'take' the guns away from his countryman. All of our Commonwealth cousins are just prostrating themselves before the alter of government, begging them to take the guns away from them. Just ask Achris for one. He'll tell ya!

Best way to keep a handgun from being stolen is carry it on your person at all times. :D :D :D

I guess their rationale is that if the law-abiding citizens don't have them, criminals can't steal them.

Maybe someday some of them will come to their senses and realize that with somewhere around 250 million privately owned firearms in the US, the horses fled the proverbial barn a long long time ago.

If I were a crook I'd be a lot bolder in Massachusetts than in Texas too, but I'd still be careful whose house I broke into at night. Massachusetts law specifically does NOT require you to attempt to flee before using deadly force inside your own domicile.

So you think we (read: commonwealth cousins) should arm ourselves just in case our crime rate decides to skyrocket?

You have got to be kidding me! Thats the screwiest logic for taking guns away from honest citizens I have ever heard. Whats next, taking away my beer or my car because some drunk might steal either one of them? Please tell me your making a joke....

The handgun is the great equalizer. It enables granma and wifey to fight back. It gives the out of shape office worker an opportunity to defend himself. (you guys get the picture, I won't continue with the examples.) Taking the guns simply gives the criminals a physical advantage as they are generaly used to the "rough and tumble" life anyway. In most cases, they already have the physical advantage without a weapon.

Guns can be manufactured easily enough. Ever heard of zip guns? These would be the next phase of guns used in crimes 1000+ years from now when they "finaly" find and confiscate the majority of guns manufactured legaly.

If you did get rid of all types of guns, you'd be dealling with medievel type wounds like getting hacked to death by a machette. I'll take a bullet hole between the eyes, thank you.

I have a hard time believing that there are more handgun accidents resulting in harm or death than there are cases of victims defending themselves with a handgun.

Were we ever invaded, all those confiscated guns
would sure come in handy!

And, most important, it's a constitutional right.
