I get plumbing and electrical issues..... seriously, have you ever met an Amish plumber or electrician?

However lack of sealing of roof racks, using zinc plated hardware vs stainless

WTF ...RVs are built worse than 80s bayliners

RVs are priced like boats, but build quality is 40 years behind the times. Will post some pics as I pull things apart.

Poor design and substandard components aside. Every issue I have run into in the past 4 years could have been resolved at the factory with a slight bit of training

The Solar system was wired wrong from the factory.

After 6 months, the PEX fittings under the sink started leaking because the plastic fittings used were thinner than standard and deformed under the clamps. I have now replaced half the PEX fittings

The torsion axle has a max capacity of 4400#. On a 4750# GVW trailer. That is why the first axle failed. The axle was replaced by LCI.

The 4400# axle is a 3500# axle with 6000# spindles and hubs

The frame is 2x5 14 gauge. Which used to be 11 gauge (until LCI and Forrest River decided to thin it up ) which would have had a 1:1 factor of safety for loading.. at 14 gauge the safety factor is under 1. when the axle failed, the frame failed. The frame was supposed to be replaced, however the new frame was 4+ months out. So I straightened the tube, sistered a 2x2 x 3/16 tube frame under the factory frame

Load assist gas shocks were added between the spindle and frame as a band-aid for the under spec'd axle

When the axle fails again, it will be replaced with a true 6000# axle (out of pocket)

The cabinets are made out of pressed cardboard glued to little pieces of wood, then wrapped in vinyl film. That's why the refrigerator fell out of the cabinet twice. I have been replacing the cabinets as they fail with custom made hickory cabinets

Now the OSB roof sheeting is wet because of the method of screw penetration thru the PVC roof membrane is sub-standard. They did NOT seal the screws in the roof rack

A dab of caulk really would have gone a long way on this issue

The OSB is being replaced with BCX sheets. The new PVC roof is 45 mill vs the standard 27 mill

You have to understand that after 2020 build years, these things were built on a piece-rate basis...with the accompanying poor quality. Even some late year 2020s are not built well. I've had several travel trailers over the years, my newest is a 2018, and it is built well...solid cabinets, porcelain toilet, stainless hardware, etc etc. The 2014 I had before that was well built, as was the 1998 model before THAT.
Remember that when the virus hit, people bought RVs in droves...at one time there was a $4B backlog in the industry in the U.S. alone.
You are seeing what a number of YouTube and TikTok channels show frequently...extremely poor build, regardless of price...which is astronomically high in many cases. Paying $100K gets you NOTHING insofar as build quality.

Agreed I think Covid had a bad effect on RV quality, boat quality and even vehicle quality.
When I look at medium-size RVs with two 3500 lb capacity axles, little 15" rims and 10" electric drum brakes it makes me nervous. Vehicles have not had 15" rims and tires for like 25 years! Upgrade to 16" allows you to use much better trailer tires!
Barely any safety margin and in some cases, there may be none at all, seeing as how most people don't weigh their RVs or boats. I also am not a fan of torsion axles on a tandem trailer because they do not load share like a spring axle/equalizer set up and they put greater forces on parts of the trailer frame than a comparable spring axle/equalizer set up. The spring axle with equalizer spreads the load out across the trailer frame, torsions concentrate it where the one mount on each side is located. They are also double the cost of replacing a spring axle.
I've had Champion Trailers custom make me 2 axles over the years and the quality of both was excellent. The latest one is a 6,000 lb drop axle with a saddle center section. This coast $445 a few years ago, a pair of Load Rite OE 5 leave springs is about $160. To that I added a pair of 12" surge brakes. So that trailer finally has what I consider a good safety margin.
While I am not in favor of more government interference in our lives, I do think that perhaps the trailer dealer should be required to take the RV or boat to a scale and get a certified weigh slip for the new owner, at least you have some idea what you have then.
It used to be the Airstreams were the best built (and expensive) trailers, are they still or has their quality followed the industry trend?

Did they shared the design data with you or are you basing your hypothesis solely on the thickness of the materials?

I typically don’t get excited about this type of stuff given the advancements in automotive metals technology over the past 10-15 years.

Mild steel (structural) is rated at 360 MPa. Replacing the mild steel with TRIP (500–980 MPa) could easily make up for the reduction in material thickness. Not to mention the increased formality and toughness (work hardening) of the material

A former Forest River engineer and the XRF gun verifies the frame is 1010 mild steel. Not even A500. It was also verified that since they dropped the material thickness from 0.12 to 0.083 wall, the front A-frames fold like tinfoil and there are a whole bunch of frame warranties which is why LCI didn't even question the frame replacement

Also, when they welded the axle mount, they burned thru the lower web of the tube. The frame NEVER had a chance from day 1
