So I’m back on this little project. Been so busy getting ready for watering season, changing/repairing sprinklers along with all the other honeydoos. Is there a rebuild kit available for these? One that comes with the necessary seals, gaskets, o-rings, etc? Like if I rebuild the top end on a dirt bike, be it 4 or 2 stroke I can buy a top end kit that comes with all of the above. I know once I get into this case, any hard parts that need replacement will have to be an additional order. I’m prepared for that. 97F39BF3-E33D-41AF-A08C-59B583B5462B.jpeg

So here’s how my concrete is being used. I haven’t touched the outboard since my last post about it back in April. Getting this shop finished up took all my time. I do have the proper pair of long reach snap ring pliers on order to get the gear case apart. Shop is pretty much done with the exception of a heater. Been lucky we’ve had a really mild winter until just a week or two ago. By next winter I’ll have a heater and the inside of the roof insulated

Not sure the moderators will let this roll but nice job on the shop...should definitely be all kinds of fun when done.

Being winter moderators are being pretty kind.

Thanks for the report.

Thanks! In the photo above from April I had a pair of long snap ring pliers that I borrowed from work. I had to make some extensions and was able to get those snap rings out of the broken blue gear case but for the life of me I couldn’t get them out of the white replacement unit. I was telling my buddy about it a couple weeks ago. He was a Mercury marine tech for 30 years and he said he was going to order the proper tool for me. What a guy huh? I haven’t seen it yet. I hope it works better than what I was using.

So here it is. Finally! I had to make some custom tips to get the snap ring out, got started on the 2nd one and the damn thing broke. I had to creative with a die grinder and got the 2nd one out. If any one cares to chime in, the gears don’t seem to want to come out. I’m not sure if I need to remove the drive shaft or not. I don’t think the shift rod is holding anything up.

Edit: I went and back through the beginning and saw racerones post about reverse gear falling out, etc. if racerone, or anyone else sees this and would share some advice what I should be looking for as far as worn out parts that I should replace that would be much appreciated

Reverse gear should fall out.------Then remove the nut on the bottom of driveshaft.----Remove driveshaft.----Push shift rod to reverse.--Remove shift rod by turning it out.-----If shift mechanism does NOT go all the way down the propshaft assembly may not pull out.

Ok I’m at that point but I’m finished for tonight. I haven’t taken the shift rod out yet. Driveshaft is out, but the pinion gear is in the way from getting the rest out.

I must be missing something man. I pushed the shift rod down and removed it. I can’t get the pinion gear out. Until it comes out nothing else does either. LOL Do I need to remove the bearing in the driveshaft housing and take the pinion out that way?
