Anyone have any hints on improving the look of my rub rails?
It's an '84.........the rails are very faded and show where they were hit with wax/compuond.

I was thinking of something like Armorall that is used on cars.....

Re: Rub Rails

Being of a rubber compound, I would think any type of rubber restorer would work. Try using a small sponge brush with a dab on it to test the rail beforte digging in...

Re: Rub Rails

Yeah, anything that would work on vinyl or rubber might help.

If you really want a fresh look, you can usually order replacement vinyl inserts from places like Taco Marine.

Re: Rub Rails

Are you talking about the aluminum or the vinyl insert? Both can be sanded with wet/dry paper, used wet. Depending on how bad they are, start with 1000 grit or higher. Then treat with something like Formula 303. I did mine this way and was very pleased.:)

Re: Rub Rails

I have a small 14 foot boat that im restoring, and i got rid of the rub rails and the vinyl insert. Is there and such rub rail that u dont need an insert for? Like just something that i can screw onto the boat for protection?
