Been searching how to reinstall that rub rail but I dont seem to find a "how to" for ones like mine that has the aluminum with the rubber runing in it.
Do you insert the vynil in the back and then keep runing it inside the "slot" or do you lay one side in then push the other side in the slot?

In case you need to see the boat to have an idea look here:

Thanks!

Re: Rub Rail reinstall

I have the same kind of rubrail on my boat and i have had parts of it pop out and trying to press it in is a real pain. The best way would be to have one person feed it in the slot and another walk around the boat guiding it around the boat making sure it stays in the slot. I remeber reading your post about the chris-craft that ran into you, I take it that the insurance company didnt "total" it. Did you fix it your self or did a shop do it. I would like to see the finished product when your complete. Good Luck!

Old brain of mine :p ...... I recall someone (sorry to the iboats member whose name I do not recall ) used a screen bead installation tool to press in the other side.

You can get them at most any hardware store.....

Re: Rub Rail reinstall

Hello again Nandy..

Its really simple now that its warm outside...

1. get yourself a buddy..
2. un-coil your roll of insert on the driveway on a nice sunny day.. wait..wait..drink a soda ( or most of us use several species of beer ) .. wait..
3. start your rubber in back.. drill and screw your starting point where it was screwed in before ( without your seam cap ) . you will have to putty knife both upper and lower of your rubber into place..
4.Get a GOOD quality stir stick and wrap a cloth around the stick where your hands will be ( sometimes it is good to sand a roundish edge to the end of your stick and make it "slightly" thinner.
5. have your bud ( or tape as you go along ) put the upper side of your instert into the top grove.. then take your modded stir stick and press up and in on the bottom side till fit in. ( your semi-cafinated peep should slightly "stretch" the insert as needed to make it ez )
6. If stretched .. then after about 3-4 feet .. push your instert back to rid of your stretch..

Once you get the hang of it..its still hard work :) but you will see what I say when things like this warm up..then faster you go..

YD.

Re: Rub Rail reinstall

Same principle but I just suggested a tool ;)

One other thing that may help is dish washing liquid..... acts as a lubricant.

Got you bob, I have one of those from when I was constantly repairing screens in the old house. Im just not sure that would work as I have to push it ways... I will get a picture tomorrow so you all can see. It will be hard to slot it and push it due to a bend at the beginning of the rail... I appreciate everyone's input. somehow I will make it thanks to you guys!!
