Rub Rail Aluminum Replacement?

I am going to replace the rubber around our boat, but I started thinking I might replace the aluminum that holds it as well. The boat was in a slip for years, and definitely shows many scuffs. Is this possible?

Unless it's been really smashed, I'd just replace the insert.

at the front or back is a splice plate or end termination trim. remove it

grab the insert with your fingers and pull

take new insert and squeeze between your fingers and push into groove

A further hint: set the new rub rail in the sun to allow it to warm up a bit, making it more flexible, easier to insert.

or have it coiled up in a bucket with hot water and dawn dish soap. leave it wet and it just slides in
