G'day all from Down under.

Thought Id try this site for some help as has help in the past.

Problem is that my boat steering suddenly got stuck and will not budge.

After reading most of these similar posts I tried today to the cable out with no luck.

I've tried removing the bolt on the starboard side of the motor the large nut one, I've Un-screwed this nut to release the cable and to pull the cable out only problem is that the inner cable can slide in and out of the outer casing which inturns is stuck in the tilt tube.

Please tell me this is all one part that supposed to go out the same way.

How do I get the outer casing out that stuck in the tilt tube.

Any help would be much appreciated..

Update have ended up getting the whole tilt tube out with cable stick stuck in it, tried putting in a portable vice to try and knock it through with no luck, currently soaking it in degrease wd40 rp7 etc.

still connected to boat at this stage.

Cheers

Re: rotary steering cable stuck

release the cable at the helm. some times the motor has to come off to get room to get them out. with a block of wood to protect the link are. drive the port side on cable into the motor tilt tube, do not spread the tip of connecting rod. once the rod is flush with tilt tube, take a drift pin, approx the same size, and drive the rod the rest of the way thru. there is a brush made for cleaning the inside of the tilt tube, when the cable is out. i have also had to take a sawzall, and cut the starboard side of the cable, to get enough room to drive the rod out.

Thankyou for your reply.

Had to disconect the whole tilt tube & cable out due to not enough room to move.

I ended up Disconecting the cable from the helm and thread it through to the stage its right off the boat.

Overnight I sprayed the inside of the tilt tube, with guess what you wouldn't believe....

Oldman told me forget about rp7 wd40 go the cheap fly spray, I laughed but gave it ago.

This morning I through the tilt tube in the vice and used a puncher and know joke it took a little bit of persaying but she pop sraight out.

Now I've just cleaned out the tilt tube, and she sliding throw ok.
Had to file down the end of the cable from all the tapping.

Hope this helps someone else in the future.

Good old FLY SPRAY
