Rope snap back or recoil

Has anyone had a ski rope shoot into the boat? I almost got my face smashed while pulling a heavy skier. The rope hit the dashboard like a gunshot. I used to see some skiers use a shock tube on the rope. Does anyone know if these help reduce rope snapback?

Depends on the type of rope
I skied one time using some kind of cord which resembled bungee cord with a nylon outer jacket. Boat takes off and stretch stars tensioning until WAM, full load and hands have to hang on because your either coming up or the handel is ripped out of your hands. Took about 5 times before I got up and I was 30 some years younger, but never again

Normal ski rope is normally polypropylene which doesn't stretch that much

Good tow ropes do not stretch and store energy

All waterski ropes have some stretch. HIgher end wakeboard and barefoot lines are non-stretch. Watch a slalom ski tournament. They all use shock tubes for a reason.
