Will be building my 89 110 motor shortly and have purchased the factory Manual the talk's of a OMC Alignment Fixture to hold the rod cap for assembly. I do not have this fixture. What is the correct way to align the caps without it???? Also any do's and do-not use for grease for assembly of the wrist pin needles that will work and not gum up when oil-gas mixture comes in contact???? Thank You

Re: Rod Cap Tool question

The rod caps must be kept with their repective rods. TThe tool is not necessary, but care must be taken to make sure the cap is oriented right. Any petroleum based grease is OK to hold the needles during assembly. It's only there for few seconds of running. I've used wheel bearing grease (non fibrous).

Re: Rod Cap Tool question

We used Vaseline for many years before OMC invented their needle bearing grease. It's clean and washes out very quickly.
