When I open my sundeck to get to the engine, the hinge screws are starting to come out. I believe it may be time to replace the plywood. Is it necessary to use marine plywood here since its not emerged in water and only sees water from people who are getting out of the water? Can I use CDX doug fir plywood and gives it several coats of Thompson water sealer? What kind of plywood would I want to use to replace this with?

Not at all! The Arauco Plywood sold at Lowe's and Home Depot is good stuff. Tompsons....Not so much. I'd Coat the it with 3-4 coats of Marine varnish and it should last for a Long time.

I had the exact same problem on my 97 Sea Ray. The wood was solid except for the screw holes. I ended up cutting an aluminum plate that was a few inches bigger than the hinge. I screwed the hinge to the plate and screwed the plate to fresh wood.
