replacing gas lines on 1972 9.8 hp mercury

Hi,

I have a 1972 9.8 H.P. Mercury motor and the gas lines leak just (old and dry rot) . I want to replace but it has the brass fittings on both ends. How do I replace and do I have to buy these specially from a Mercury dealer?

Any advice from you would be very much appreciated.

If it is the one from the main fuel connection point to the fuel pump, i would say yes it is a braided line, how ever you may have problems finding that hose had the same issue with a 1977 40 hp, and I had to get inventive, I ended up using a normal fuel line and finding fitting and clamps

some of the original size hoses are still available oldmercs.com or you can make your own with new brass barbed fittings and fuel hose from auto parts supply or here on iboats parts. make sure you don't constrict fuel delivery. fuel starvation = major engine failure as the oil mix in gas is what lubes the running engine
