My upper exhaust boot (merc # 32-44348T) is starting to disintegrate and is dripping. I have purchased the replacement part, but am wondering about installation.

Do I need to remove the exhaust elbow to install? Or can I just remove the four hose clamps holding the boot? The rubber boot does not seem very flexible and I'm not sure I will be able to work it into place without removing the elbow. Doing so would mean replacing the open gasket on the bottom of the elbow (and I don't have that part)

I have attached a pic. You cant really see the elbow, but can see the leak.

Any advice or info would be appreciated.
thanks

will have to loosen the top 2nd hose in order to take off the old bad one. i used wd-40 when i have it and if i dont i use the liquid spray silicone for tires to make the boots slick to slide on

Thanks for the thought. The top hose (boot) is the one that needs replaced. Maybe I can loosen the lower boot. Still not sure if that will give me enough room to work with.

Agree with Randy. Loosen all 8 clamps and work the top hose and the pipe back. And take the pipe and both hoses off as a unit.

Loosen all clamps in yellow, slide lower boot down to clear the dump, remove dump, R/R upper hose, reassemble.

Thanks Bt Doctur! Just did it this weekend. The key is sliding the lower boot all the way down to clear the dump. If only getting access to it was as easy as the job.
