The two side engine mounts on my '66 100hp appear to be shagged bcos they dont stop or dampen any front to rear engine movement when under load.
Ive found a drawing of the mounts on marineengine.com & it appears that the rubber has broken from the metal plate at the bottom of it & now it just slides back & forth.

Does anyone have any tips of how to replace these mounts in the easiest way?
Will i have to undo all the nuts/bolts at the bottom of the engine & lift the powerhead off to replace them?

I thought id ask on here before i just got ahead removing the bolts & trying to rip it off.

Can you post a picture of which ones you are talking about? It will help you get the best and quickest answers.

You are speaking of the upper mounts, right? Here are the in-a-nutshell basics.

1. Remove the rear covers then disconnect any involved wires, hoses, and linkages and remove the powerhead. Be careful removing the hoses from the plastic thermostat housing---it breaks easy.

2. Remove the lower unit.

3. Unbolt the upper mounts from the powerhead adapter; Remove the four bolts that hold the lower mount to the lower front cover.

4. Now the exhaust housing should pull toward the rear, and rotate it up and out of the lower front housing.

5. Remove the mounts from the lower front housing and replace with new ones.

6. Reverse steps to reassemble. You will need new gaskets and possibly new thermostat hoses (they're special molded hoses).

EDIT: On second thought, I don't think you have to remove the lower unit #2. Memory starts to get a tad hazy after 40 years since I've done one.

Thanks a lot F_R that's exactly the info I needed.
While ive got so much of the outboard apart, is there anything else i should inspect & replace at the same time?
Also would the powerhead be too heavy for one guy to lift off on his own?

ok ive completed step 1, but i cant seem to get the powerhead off.
It lifts up about 5cm but thats it. Im making sure im lifting it off straight so none of the studs bind in the holes but i just cant get it off.
Is there something else that needs to be undone that i may have missed.
Ive undone all the nuts on the powerhead adaptor all around it.

The crankshaft splines could be stuck could be stuck in the drive shaft splines. The only way to prove it is to try dropping the lower unit and see what happens.

Ok, I admit I am Metric challenged, but 5cm, not 5mm? Isn't that quite a bit? 5mm, I'd go along with boobie's thought. Are you sure you have the electric shift cable undone? I can't think of anything else that would keep it from coming up.

Oops I did mean 5mm.
It does feel like something in the drivetrain ie catching.
I'll turn the engine over by hand and see if that does anything
