Replacing Alpha Gen 2 upper and lower housings

My upper and lower housings are starting to see major corrosion. The gearset and bearings are in excellent shape, so I'm going to switch all internals over into new housings. If all original bearings and gears will be reused, will I need to measure and reshim? Thanks.

Unfortunately that's a yes as no two housings are machined the same and technically speaking it's suggested to recheck the specifications upon any type of tear down and reassembly.

Ayuh,... It'll be cheaper, quicker, 'n easier to slap on a new SEI drive,....

Unless you have the several thousands of dollars of special tools with the experience to get the job done and the factory service manual on hand, not worth it.

As mentioned, new SEI complete drive is your best option.

Most repair shops won't even swap internals due to the labor cost outwieghing the cost of replacement alpha style drives/housing assemblies. This along with a manufacturers warranty and repair time makes re shimming an alpha style drive a thing of the past

Bravo on the other hand is still quite expensive to attain complete assemblies and a driveshaft housing gear/clutch swap is still common practice
