Replace rear drums with regular hubs

Hello all, I have a trailer question. I have a 2002 EZ load trailer with dual axles. 6 bolt hubs and drum brakes on the rear. The drum brakes are completely rusted inside and out along with pads and all hardware. Can I replace the drum brakes with regular hubs? Other than not having trailer brakes (never worked for me anyway) is there another reason this won't work? The rear axle has a zirc fitting on it but not the front axle. Thanks

"is there another reason this wont work?" you can do what ever you want.. with that said..you have a dual axle set up with 6 bolt hubs?. that tells me you have a boat large enough to need a double axle.. that tells me it's likely heavy and by law requires breaks.. if you want to do this right and abide by the law, open up the wallet and install breaks.. I prefer surge breaks.. to put a set up on your trailer will be about $500-750. or you can skip the breaks and hope you stop when you need to. God forbid you hit someone and they get hurt.. the investigation will show you dont have breaks.. if you are required by law to have them and you skipped that part.. you might as well hand over the keys to your house too.......

Since you are using a trailer obviously rated to haul much more than a 12 foot dingy, the only responsible answer is to fix the brakes. How big a load are you towing?

The cost of getting new hubs (non braking) will not be significantly cheaper than new drum brake hubs. Just get new drum brakes.

My trailer is dual axle and has 6 bolt hubs, it also carry about 8K worth of boat. I would really reconsider your thought process on this one. It is a huge safety issue and should be addresses properly. Every time I hear something like this on this site I always think how I would feel if my wife got killed because someone knowingly did something like this. Its just no fair to the other people on the road.
