repeated lockups on iBoats: unresponsive scripts

This morning, every time I open a screen or click on a link in the iBoats forums, my browser (Firefox 40.0.2) running in Win7, is locking up and I get the screen below. Clicking on "stop script" allows me to view the page, but if I open another page, it does the same thing. On every page. I wonder if one of the advertisers has a poorly written/behaved script? (Also, the photo uploader keeps giving me an error message; haven't seen that for a while. I used Photobucket instead.)

I haven't had the opportunity to see that script message in the forums lately.

I do get one when I first start FF on one of my home pages, not iboats, and I click the Continue box and it doesn't happen again until the next time I start FF.

I have no idea if it's related to your issue. I'll notify toneeees to see if he has any thoughts.

Google js.moatads

I think it may be your computer, some of the hits describe it as a virus

Howdy,

It might be that your version of JAVA is giving you a problem. (unless you don't have JAVA) Winblows usually comes with it's own version of Java. so if you don't have Java, you might try installing it (I always install the latest version of (Sun/Oracle) Java on my Windows 7 boxes)

I am not having any of those problems you mention on this computer though.............
(But I'm running OpenSuSE 13.2 x64 Linux, KDE 5.x [Desktop]& Firefox 40.0 + Adblock Plus)

I'm, actually also not using Oracle Java either............ though I'm running OpenJDK
java-1_7_0-openjdk - SUSE's implementation of the OpenJDK 7 runtime environment
SUSE's implementation of the OpenJDK 7 runtime environment.
It contains a Java virtual machine, runtime class libraries, and an Java application launcher that are necessary to run programs written in the Java programming language. It is not a development environment and does not contain development tools such as compilers and debuggers. For development tools, see the java-1_7_0-openjdk-devel package.

I also use Photobucket on this computer. Photobucket uploader problems are sometimes related to [older]Java versions.........and the multiple file uploder on Photobucket doesn't play well with OpenJDK for some reason so I only upload pictures 1 at a time........

Regards,

Rick

doubt its a virus. I get the same issue on two computers at home, and one at work. I get the the issue only on iBoats, and not with other forums/sites.

all computers running firefox, operating systems are XP, win7 pro and win 7 pro. versions of FF are 39 and 40.

Its been freezing up on my iphone 5s as well. Doesnt do it on other websites.

The iPhone uses Safari. Not the best (browsing) tool in the box. There is not Firefox for the iOS. (seems the Mozilla boys are still not speaking to Jobs......)

But Chrome plays well with iOS............... That might fix your problem.........

I don't know... I only see this when browsing iBoats. I'm pretty sure I visit other sites that use Java... I don't understand why this wouldn't also affect them.

Over the last few days My ipad and phone at times won't load correctly, and it is only on this site. It will let me view the first window that opens, if I click on anything else it will start to load and then stall, it then freezes and nothing further can be done, you need to manually close it down. It just did this this morning when I first noticed this thread, I tried to click on it and everything stopped working. After an hour it all works well again. I do notice that other people are able to post during this time, so not everyone is affected by it.

I've seen similar things happen on other sites that use targeted ads. I wonder if some of the ads have bad code that causes Java to choke.

I use Dolphin as a file manager. It's the KDE default file tool. Didn't know it was a browser too (maybe it's a different "Dolphin"?)

Safari is based on Konqueror using "Webkit" I also use Konqueror, but I use the KHTML "engine" instead of WEBKIT (it's selectable) because I've had problems with Webkit on certain pages. https://konqueror.org/

Apple supposedly based Safari on parts of Konqueror, but evidently not the "good parts"!

I bypassed Safari and it didn't work thay way either, and changing web browsers, settings, or things isn't an option. It stopped working between this post and my last post in this thread, had to wait about 45 minutes for it work again.

I'm posting this using Konqueror now..........

Just tried my IPAD Air using Chrome.

Got the first page to load and then it froze completely! Had to Kill Chrome and re-launch it. froze immediately the second time..........

Just tried it again now using the IPAD with Safari and it works ......except I cannot get the Javascript login window to open.......So I cannot post anything with the IPAD.

Posting and now editing with Konqueror works ok.

Looks like there's some sort of strange Javascript problem with certain browsers.......

In addition to Firefox on my Win7 PC, it's also locking up Google Chrome and Safari, both on my iPad. Makes it pretty much impossible to read anything. I don't even know if this will post before it locks up again.

I've been on for about 10 minutes (Firefox/Windows) and things seem to be working again. No lockups or unresponsive scripts so far...
