The consensus seems to be to avoid pressure treated because it isn't dried and you could have some major adhesion issues with the fiberglass. Good quality ACX exterior ply will be fine.

Thanks for that info:
I'm in Australia so don't know about the 'ACX' branding, but you have put me on the right track to seek out Good Quality Exterior Ply for the job...

Re: Repairing Volaro Dart...

you will get excellent advice here about doing up your tub
just noticed the wrong spelling...it's Volero,
anywho, the one that we have with the soft floor is the same as yours...has the same 'boxes' at the back...though 'ours' are in better nick...think they add strength?
other model doesn't have them but that one is only rated for a 65...yours is 85, even though it is the same length/width hull...just has a different cap,
try ebay for FG and resin supplies, walk in joints like Whitworths are excellent, BCF is ok but not as good, staff not really into fixing up boats,
you need to get proper rollers to roll the resin into the fibreglass matt, not paint rollers
go into a newsagent and look for one of Websters mags that covers doing up and repairing FG boats, can't remember which one it is atm but it's worth getting to read on the dunny

lots of these tubs around, a good paint job sets them off

G'Day Mr Dome...
A fellow Aussie, Eh..
Thanks for all that good oil...
LOL - Volero it is...
So... Are you saying that your Volero has a soft floor too..?? But that's not 'normal' though - is it..?
The "boxy" things under the cap are pretty wrecked on our Volero - but don't think it will give me any heartaches to replace both of those... the transom and deck - and what's underneath, is my biggest worry...
Only a Mariner 40 hooked onto ours - we'll see how the project goes before looking at a bigger power-plant...
Good idea to try Ebay... Thanks...
I have Geoff Webster's Secondhand Boat Workshop (3) - first thing I bought...
Has sections on pp 88 & 98 about replacing transoms and stringers and re-decking... But not a lot of detail...
But you're right... There is a hell of a lot of detail and knowledge on the forum...
And I reckon I'm gonna need it...

Re: Repairing Volaro Dart...

yeh, from Vic...at the moment,
said g'day post no.9 11th Feb,
sons have two Darts, both here atm,
one has soft floor and transom..other one is good
both were bought as project boats,

no, soft floors/transoms are not normal but there is plenty of them around,

the really tedious bit ( imo ) is grinding out stringers and dealing with the dust, the rest isn't too bad, just takes time,

l fear your stringers may be cactus, l wonder whether this model Dart only having one bung (apart from the splashwell ) has contributed to the soft floor/transom...l mean, ALL the water that finds it's way into the boat ends up in the hull through that gap at the transom,

anywho, good luck with it

Re: Repairing Volaro Dart...

With the realisation that the replacement of the transom, stringers and deck on the Volero (plus what else I may find) is likely to be a long job for me, I have re-thunk my strategies... It has been plenty HOT here in my neck of the desert (47.5C it was, one day..!!) and now we have Rain and Storms and 100kph winds, likely to be followed by the remnants of tropical cyclone Rusty... So, before I even attack the boat with my grinder, I will need to build a cover / shed to house it while I work - and keep it out of the weather... And it will need to be somewhat solid and sturdy to cope with the potential chance of severe winds...
Now, building this structure will be a physical task in itself (for me) - but has to be done... And until it is, I have decided to close this thread, and open another thread when the boat is under cover and ready to start...
Naturally, though, I will continue to browse the forum and learn as much as I can.
And thanks to all of you for your teaching...
