Is there an easy way to remove the upper and lower crankcase seals? I have a seal puller ("hook" type) but I can't get any leverage on the crank head assemblies. I'm guessing there is a better seal puller I can use?

Knowing what engine you're working on will be helpful. Are you trying to replace the seals with the crankshaft still in? Don't apply pressure on the crankcase, you might break a piece off. A slide hammer puller can help get them out. It has two opposing hooks on a shaft with a sliding weight that you bang into the end of the puller away from the seal to hammer it out.

Re: Removing upper and lower seals

My mistake  It's an 85 'Rude 90hp. The crank head assemblies are removed the crank. I'm in the process of doing a rebuild on the motor.

However, I did get the seals removed and the new ones tapped in. What I thought was part of the seal was in reality not part of the seal. Yesterday morning I went and re-looked everything over and using a bigger screwdriver, I was able to tap the old seals out.

Thanks :)
