Removing tongue on magictilt trailer

I believe I can fit my 15 Key West into the garage, but only if I remove the tongue on my trailer. It is a magic tilt trailer and has a pin and a bolt that the tongue hinges on. I experimented with it tonight and pulled the pin and removed the bolt, disconnected the winch cable and safety chain and with fairly minimal effort was able to pull the entire tongue out of the sleeve. Only problem is the trailer light wires. Was thinking, I could cut these and solder and shrink tube some plugs on so that I could disconnect the lights and pull the tongue out entirely.

Am I working too hard at this? Does anyone else do this.

If I can't fit it into the garage, going to have to modify my back yard fence and invest in a boat cover and even then it will sit outside.

that would be fine BUT you should look into a folding tongue

Would a standard machine shop be able to install?

I did this exact thing years ago. I just did as you suggest; installed a standard 4-pin male & female connector. The tongue was removable in minutes. It is another link in the chain to your lights though, so add some dielectric grease on the joints and pins to stop corrosion. - Grandad

More likely a welding/fab shop. But... fulton does make a bolt in folding adapter that the weekend diy-er should be able to install. Just depends on your skill level. I put a weld on adapter on my trailer myself. Its up to you :)

Some machine shops do some welding but I'd expect that they would charge ya about 3 times more than a welding/fab shop..... Also many auto shops and muffler shops can do welding too..... just look in the yellow pages (or google) under welding
