Are the handheld small vaccs intended to suck-up insects successful? It seems like a good way to remove them.

Are the sprays for keeping them away (Ortho Home Defense, etc) still a good option to spray a couple of time per year?

Thanks!

The dock owners were hiring a crew to spray a few times during the summer. I could never tell that it did any good as compared to the years they didn’t spray. No clue what the product was.

Vacs can suck them up "but" that will not get rid of them, it only slows them down. Spiders are worst this year than prior, why I have no idea

Need to spray the boat and surroundings but that to is bad. Think if everyone sprays 2 to 3 ounces of bug stuff, that is thousands of gallons of bug stuff going in the water

We get them here too ....on everything 😡 there is at least one in every rear view mirror on all my cars , in my quad headlights , on my fishing gear ........pretty much anything that you dont move for half a day .
I use spider spray around the outside of the house and sheds .....like 50 litres at a time. I have a dedicated 50L tank and electric pump that fits on my quad and I go round the property every few months .

"Man, there are so many bugs and mosquitoes flying around annoying us, what should we do?"

"Well, spiders eat those things, so maybe provide more spider habitat in our yards? That might help keep the flying ones down."

"Kill the spiders you say? I'm on it!"

spiders are common at my marina.
"SpiderAway" is a product I used once but the ingredients are vinegar and peppermint oil, so I just make my own. (peppermint oil-amazon) . It does seem to reduce them. I also use a bug spray sparingly.
I have a double bimini top on a pontoon boat and they mainly like to congregate in those, the tank/batteries compartment, and changing room. So they get spritzed every now and then.
The first year, before I knew about them, it was.....interesting. My 3rd year now and really haven't seen any to speak of.

Back in my youth, my father hated spiders with a passion ! Back then we had a 16' Lyman in a boat lift. Spiders were everywhere. Finally tried loosening the gas caps on the 6 gallon fuel tanks to let some gas fumes out. Spiders went away, at least the majority of them did. Not recommending this, but it did work for us.....
With that said, I do use the home defense stuff and it works very well around my home. I spray the foundation and up under the siding along the bottom. No spiders or ants all summer long.
