I think I misunderstood which grommet you were referring to. That grommet can sometimes get stuck in there, and access to push it out limited. It may be necessary to destroy it to remove it. It's usually easier to remove the drive, and pivot housing to access it. cut the wires and dig it out.
Just clean the hole up nice and smooth and paint it if needed, and let it dry. Then reinstall the new one with some grease on it to prevent corrosion or the new plug from freezing in the housing again.
