Remove tilt & trim permanently?

I have a stupid question. I have a 16 foot Carolina Skiff with a 40 HP Nissan. It has tilt & trim, but the electric motor stopped working and it is stuck in the down position. I?m hoping it will be a simple fix, loose or corroded wire or something similar, but if it is not, would it be a good option to simply change the motor it where I can adjust the tilt & trim manually? Like a Jon boat? For my use, it?s not important to get maximum speed, trim, etc., I just take short slow trips to fish and island hop.

Agreed, not sure why you wouldn't want to fix it. As someone who owns a manual tilt Johnson 85hp, I can tell you I wouldn't own an outboard with out it again. I upgraded to a 90 hp with power trim and the ability to lift the engine while under power in the shallows made all the difference. Not to mention speed gains and burying the bow in the chop.
