Hi, I have a 1980 7.5 Johnson that has spark, compression and fuel but will not try to start. I have cleaned the carb. changed plugs and wires checked fuel pump to no avail as a last resort I removed the reed valves, shinning a flashlight behind reed valves I could see a very small amount of light around edge of plates also, there are two apertures in reed plate, one each side which match openings in cylinder block ,they both appear to be blocked up, My question is what are these passages for? (I can find no info.) and if they are blocked up could this be the reason why it wont start. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Checked flywheel key ?-----Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" or more?-----The passages are the oil recirculation circuit.----They are not involved with the " no start " issue for you!----Switched plug wires ??
