Rebuilding the trailer

I have taken on the project of rebuilding the boat trailer, something I have never done. The trailer was sound and I brought the boat home on it but the bearings were a little loose and there was water inside the cap. There is a lot of rust on the frame, the lights need replacing, the winch and tong jack are ancient. I'm not sure but in researching the bunks and rollers I am under the impression that the trailer was not set up correctly for this boat. I have started by taking the trailer completely apart and grinding with a wire brush all the paint and rust off.

I then primed the frame and all the parts.

I chose a Rust-Oleum industrial paint for the color. Next I will start assembly.

I did the same thing eons ago. Except I pre-primed with rust reformer before using the fishoil primer. I sold the trailer 21 years later and the rust had still not come thru.

I did the exact same thing to my pathetic trailer when I bought a boat, engine and trailer package of an old worn out setup. If you would like to see how I did everything, click on the trailer link below. Lots of pictures and ideas to set up a trailer for one particular boat. And you can customize your trailer however you like. Then you know it is built correctly.

I finished the trailer today and took the boat to the license office to transfer the registration. I was stoped on the way by a guy asking where I had purchased my new trailer...felt good.

I see some fishing in your future now. Your project reminds me how I started in fishing. I bought an old 12' Feathercraft V bottom aluminum boat, I found a display trailer at K-Mart that they were getting out of the trailer market. I got it for cheap. And I bought a used, non-working, Sears 7.5 HP air cooled engine. And the rest is history now. Nice to see you're ready to go now. Thumbs Up!

She ran great and launching/loading was simple.
