Folks, I'm looking for advice on rebuilding my 87 Ilander I have the floor out and have found a host of other problems, saturated foam, transom showing some rot but probably worse than what meets the eye.
I need advice on removing the engine and outdrive brackets trough the hull what to replace the foam with do I cover all sides of the new 3/4 fir plywood floor with epoxy if i'm putting down new nautolex vinyl.
I just started taking it apart and other things i am thinking of doing are changing all the old mahogany but wood to change it to? I also want to move my batteries forward to the cuddy storage area and build raised panel doors on either side of the dog house and get rid of the jump seats for tackle storage.
I'm open to all suggestions and advice.

labor of love.

Hey gramps welcome to iboats:welcome:

What driveline have ya got there?

For foam, most guys go with the blue or pink foam board from the lumber yard or pool noodles. A little reading and you'll see there are a lot of other options too.

Sealing up plywood with epoxy prior to vinyl is no doubt a good move.

You can change out your wood to just about anything you like, personal preference there.

Moving the batts into the cabin makes for a super long run. That'll be expensive wire job and the voltage drop could be an issue for ya.

Let see some photos of that Islander eh!:thumb:

Welcome to iboats gramps. Take a look at the restoration threads - jasoutside is too modest - take a look at his 22 foot Islander rebuild.

Welcome to the drydock gramps. Lots of help here from people in the process or have done what you are doing. Definitely look as Jas's thread, just please don't bring up batteries again. Lots of info there. Most are getting epoxy from US Composite. Arcuoa, not sure on spelling, is plywood being use if available in your area. I get mine at Menards. Good luck and will be following along.:joyous:
