I feel your pain. Gave my son-in-law a nice lawn tractor I didn't need anymore. Gave him the cover. His garage is bigger than mine. Visited a few weeks ago and saw tractor sitting in his backyard, uncovered. Daughter told me it had been like that a couple of weeks.

Yup. Buy a new boat and let it fill with soggy leaves.
Oh well. Keeps the economy going!

Here is the thing though, 3 or 4 years from now this guy will be selling it and someone who doesn't know any better will buy it. Then you will have both owners complaining about how terrible Sea Doo is. The other side of the coin is that I bought a brand new entry level boat years ago. I kept it in a garage, wiped it down and removed cushions and opened hatches after every use. After 5 years the ski locker cover was falling apart and the upholstery was begining to fail. I know a lot of people say they would rather have a well maintained entry level boat than an abused high end boat. I'm not sure about that. I've had both and I had to spend money to bring the abused boat up to par, I made money on it when I sold it. The well maintained entry boat cost me. I'll look for a well taken care of better built boat from now on first but I would take an abused high end boat for the right price.

We had a classic wooden Chris craft up the road uncovered, bow aimed towards the downhill end of the driveway for a couple of years. Last month I stopped. I complimented his awesome Chris craft and said "hey, if I can't buy that boat, can I buy you a tarp. I'm restoring an old boat, yada, yada, yada".

He was real nice, said he was preparing a barn for it and was real appreciative of me stopping.

As for the mind your own business posts...I strongly disagree. We ARE our brother's keeper. When we are awake and alive and tryin' to help a brother/neighbor out and they are appreciative...we both win. When they tell us to get off their property, I can almost guarantee that person has "other" problems in their life.

That kind of stuff drives me a little batty but I keep it in perspective. Cars/ boats don't wear out- they are generally helped. No reason a modern well built product can't have a lifespan 20-30 years or much more.

I love getting compliments on my toys as many people who don't know would guess my fleet is expensive or new- Pays to have been a detailer for a few years and not enough money to replace it:cool:

Sounds like my brother in law. Reason #121 I am glad I have sons. :D

You might be offened or upset by this action but you still cannot control other peoples actions/habits. I'm more offened by people that don't bath or go out wearing a half a bottle of cologne to hide that fact.

You can substitute car, house, etc for boat in your post. The bottom line is that many people just don't take care of their stuff. I just added on a 3rd car garage because I can't stand to leave cars sit outside. My boat is always in covered storage, typically under a cover. Hell, even my Weber BBQ grill is covered when not in use. It's also the reason why my 14 year old car and 10 year old boat are mistaken for new or nearly new.

Good luck trying to convince someone using a car or boat in commercial operation that things don't wear out and well built equipment has a life span of 20-30 years.

Funny someone should mention being our brothers keeper. For some reason nothing infuriates my lil brother more than seeing a nice boat uncovered/neglected. And it don't take long for em to go to pot down here.

I can kinda see where he's coming from since he's anal bout keeping his Stingray clean & covered. Bought new in '01 & still looks really good. But why should he get so bent outa shape if someone else wants to trash their stuff?

Me it puts a big smile on my face. Cuz I know some canvas & cushion guy's gonna make money fixin it.

I have had a real chuckle at all the posts about people not taking care of their boats. Just as the rest I see it most everyday going back and forth to work. Here in NW ohio we just went thru a serious winter storm and their are folks that have their boat sitting uncovered in there yards without any form of cover. They have been filled with snow right up to the gunnels and not tilted to allow drainage. And they expect these to sell!! Now perhaps we understand why there is so much junk on the market when we decide to buy another boat........
