Re: Rant about wife's family

Umm, hate to tell ya, but they're going to use the van to move in with you. Babysitting problem solved, payment collection is easier, and you'll always know where the van is in case they fall behind. So what's the problem? :)

Chip

Chip, the cousin that was going to get the van isn't the one who was evicted. ;) but that's a funny thought.
My wife still asked what we could do to help out the one who did get evicted. You know, the one who just called us cheats and cheapskates? I responded, "Well she and her two kids certainly aren't moving in here!" :)

Re: Rant about wife's family

selling a used vehicle to a family member is much like selling one to your boss .... it better be the best one ever or the end result will never be good ..... years later they will still bring it up to you if they ever have to repair anything

Re: Rant about wife's family

No I disagree Jim and others. I have NO problem selling a used car to a family member. Because I am honest about what the vehicle is, has been, and could be. I am the same when I sell to a stranger, too. Just ask the guy who bought my 95 K1500. As my wife said, "you told him too much about what's bad on the truck." I replied, "but it's what I know, and it's the truth."
Plus I would have been HAPPY to keep servicing Monty Van (yes, I named our Pontiac Montana, "Monty". ANd not after python, either, just liked the sound of "Monty Van".) for as long as her cousin owned it.

Re: Rant about wife's family

The cousin screwed herself, she knows the vehicle and she knows who owns it and how it's been taken care of. Some women "arent there" in the head sometimes, especially when they listen to a Used Car Salesman instead of a relative!

When she buys whatever car it is she's going to buy and it turns out to be a POS (and you know it will be) you get to at least smile to yourself... if not say "I told you so!"

What goes around comes around and everything happens for a reason.

Re: Rant about wife's family

:D You more than probably saved yourself a headache here. As to the used car salesman ...he will mess this up somehow trust me...i am one. 1500 for a good used van is wholesale if not more and the chances of finding a good running van for 1500 is 1 in a 1000....No good used car manager would ever let a good running car be sold for 1500.. its a commidity worth 3000 plus dollars. She will endup getting some patched together old bone pile 6 months later it will fail and he will be long gone.

After 25 yrs in the business i have seen this time after time and even with my own family. As to the family members just forget it..it never happened.. family is by far more important than any car deal...And i will tell you this good people get absolutey idiotic when it come to car's..there higher reasoning just shuts off and something else takes over..and i still dont know what it is to this day...Ego..vanity...know it all's... all of that and more..:D

Often i have thought of taking vids of people going thourgh the buying process....it would provide some of the best entertainment ever seen on a TV. But ego's and feeling's would be hurt and we all experience it.

Friends are friends .. family is family .. but business is business !

Rule #1 is biz ..

Its just biz .. other things get into the mix for some reason..

Yup. Now we know who writes all those. Never would have suspected the coop, though.

Life Rule #7

Never do buisiness / money with relatives.

x9 or what ever we are up to now...

Though, now she is going to buy some $4000 POS from he sister's ex-boyfriend, and TE will be wrenching on it forever fixing all the carp wrong with it. And, she will be saddled with $4000 worth of car payments, plus interest, and repairs, and this, and that...

I have a feeling this is one of those lose-lose situations...

You'll probably get more than $1500 but if you don't, under no circumstances let them know you didn't.
