Thank you! Those are exhaust shutters that go in the top of the exhaust down pipe justbelow the exhaust elbow. Must have been over heated at one time. Replace it
How often should these be replaced? Is there a recommended maint schedule? I cant imagine a visual inspection would be sufficient when its made of neoprene/rubber.Just to inform you....
Those exhaust shutters are located inside the exhaust, in the engine bay. They fell off and worked their way all the way down into the drive. This is a common occurrence.
They don't need routine replacement. However, if your engine overheats, the rubber parts can melt and the metal parts can fall down into the lower exhaust. If you're lucky, they will continue and end up in the outdrive. If you're not lucky, they will sit at the bottom of the exhaust and can cause a rust through of the wall of the exhaust or a blockage. How often should these be replaced? Is there a recommended maint schedule? I cant imagine a visual inspection would be sufficient when its made of neoprene/rubber.
