Ran bad at full throttle, now dead

My 2000 115 Johnson started running really bad last year when throttle was applied and I thought I had a fuel problem as it would idle fine. Last time out-Saturday- motor died and I had to be towed in.
Now I have no spark and motor does not even kick when spraying some Hot shot into carbs. I've cleaned and dried plugs but to no avail.
My question is: can an electronic ignition system start behaving badly like this before it kicks the bucket or do I have two problems? Fuel and spark?

How did you fix the problem last year?
Start there, you may not have solved it.

I did not fix last year, it was intermittent and occured at end of year, so i winterized it and hoped it would go away

Yah...that trick never works. So, it's time to start from scratch. Test the compression. Then test the spark on all cylinders. Finally, check the fuel system, from fuel pump to carburetors. Correct what's wrong and you should be good to go.

Ahhhh.....the "let it heal itself" theory....:D

If the "hot shot" spray is a name for ether based starting fluid, do not use it in a 2-stroke.

As above, you need a systematic approach; you know the spark is a problem, so deal with that first.
Also, save time and $$ ....get a manual.
