My boat is a 74 sea star bass boat, with a 73 evinrude 65 hp motor. I have electric tilt/trim it stopped working last fall and i am just getting around to it. It is stuck in the down position. I used a multimeter and checked all the wires and i have power going back to the pump so Im guessing its the pump. So to my other question I tried to use the manual lift so i can at least get on the water. I can lift the motor but for some reason it won't lock the motor in position. Not really to knowledgeable about boats so not really sure why it won't lock in position. Any ideas would be great. Thanks Dave

The tilt lock on that engine will lock it in the up position. There is a tilt lock pictured on the "exhaust housing" page of the original factory parts catalog. You can view it online yourself: epc.brp.com

Re: Raising my outboard motor?

Hi Golfer,

Does the motor run or just click when activated, or nothing at all?

If it just clicks, it could be the relays have failed. Mine failed because the PO left the control box flat on the deck behind the battery and it got water inside.

If the motor runs in both directions, is it leaking fluid or empty?

If no leaks and full, and the relays ae working, then I'd suspect the motor, too.

G'day

Re: Raising my outboard motor?

I'm having a similar problem but my motor is not hooked up to any batter at all yet. Is there a manual way to raise it? I have tried lifting it myself and it doesn't budge at all. I want to do some engine work on it, but my boat is in bad shape and needs electrical work done too. Is there a way to bypass anything to hook it up straight to battery to see if trim works at all?
