Quicksilver Controls

I'm an OMC guy, but have this control unit, because I purchased a boat years ago that had it still installed. It has been hanging on the wall of my shop ever since. I have no idea what Mercury motors the control will fit, so any advice that the Merc experts here can offer, will be much appreciated.

There appears to be a trim switch on the throttle/shift lever and the wiring consists of an eight circuit plug and a four circuit ribbon cable. There is also a guarded switch (2nd image, to right), the function of which I am not sure.

That's an outboard control box known as 'Commander'. It will fit any Merc outboard with an 8 pin, internal connector. The cable of 4 wires with the plug cut off is the trim control lead, and the toggle switch is a deadman/safety switch. A ring lanyard goes over the switch toggle and the switch pushed up. The other end should be attached to the driver... If he gets thrown from the driver position it pulls the toggle switch down and shuts down the ignition system....

Thanks for the info. I kinda thought the switch was a deadman, but wasn't sure. Same with the ribbon cable - once again not sure.

Time to start getting some stuff out of my shop, so I think I'll Ebay and Craigslist it.

I have the same control box which on my Sunray. Would like find out from you if you already posted it in Ebay and Craiglist. I am in search for this box. let me know if it's still up for grab. The handle and the bushing for shifter was already worn out. This boat was given to me on December and their was no key when I got it, it is on restoration right now.
