Hello,
I could use some help as I am a first time boat owner. I am mechanical competent and do research on things so if you care to suggest any reading.
My issue is I bought an 20' 1998 Angler, the seller plugged all the livewell holes along bottom part around hull on outside with silicon. He stated he just did not want to use the system.
I would like to ask if there is anything safety wise I need to check? What would be any other purposes of plugging the holes? Should I be concerned of hidden damage?
Thanks

Welcome
When a seller does anything to a boat and says something like that, I would say there is a problem. Don't know if it's a safety issue with live wells but probably means the pumps don't work

Yeah, a fishing boat with a bunch of through hull fittings can be a problem,.

Thanks for the replies. If there are bad pipes or fittings is there also a way to replace them? And yea I did not think silicone durable enough or capable of withstanding water pressure.

Don't know what it would take to get to the pipes, but everything can be replaced it's just what has to be removed or cut to get at it

Never been on a Angler boat so have no first hand knowledge, but even the boats I have owned if piping needed to be replaced I could see where that may also be needed.

Need to look, maybe there is access and pipes/hoses can be pulled thru from one location to another. If cutting is necessary might be able to install covers

These are the choices for my boat/year and I'm at a loss for knowing which to choose for a cover.

It's not a center or dual so must be a walk around. Most call then open bow run about

When I bought my boat, the livewells were plugged as well as the prior owned did not use them. The front unit was plugged wuth an actual plug and the hoses disconnected. The rear livewell was also plugged with a proper plug but hises left intact in case it needed to be used again. They do make proper plugs, which don't leak or come out. My livewell' s are inserts with a flange around the edge screwed to the deck. Remove screws and lift out the well to acess the hoses. Some have acess panels on the sides. I use mine only for storage, any fish I catch, go into a cooler to get filleted for dinner.

Airshot thanks for that insight.
Dingbat I looked up some boats selling and it looks like my boat is considered dual console for whatever reason.
