Can some of you fine people here tell me if a distributor off of a Merc. Model 650, sr# 3000662 is interchangeable with my 1971 Merc. Model sr# 3192883,both are 4 cylinders and it looks Identical.

Well thanks to you people here I been making progress with my boat.I purchased a new (used) distributor for my 1971 80 horse Merc.Now all I need is a switchbox and I might be on my way back to doing some fishing.I had taken my old distributor down to our local Marine shop because he wanted to see it since I told him that the one I have had points in it.He said who ever did this was a genius.Whoever worked on this boat before my time had fabricated a make shift plate for inside the distributor and attached a set of points and it ran.Not very good but it ran.I would put some pic's up here of this jolly good mess but I dont want to be responsible for someone dying from laughing..Anyway when its done and running I will post some.Thanks again guy's and Gal's..
