Re: Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl...

they look good, only thing I would have done differently is use a white thread...I know that you wanted that look but IMO the pleats should speak for themselves without the stitch line screaming...that is just personal preference...

Yeah, I was going to use white thread mostly to make my rookie mistakes less apparent. But I'm deleting the carpet and the boat is going to be all white inside and out. There aren't very many seats in the boat but they are at all four corners so I figured the blue thread would add just a little color around the interior. Plus, I really like contrasting top stitching in a sports car. And, I want a boat like no one else has :)

Hi. I'm new here and I own a upholstery shop also. I use yellow chalk my self. I sharpen it for a fine line. Also most of my pleats are hidden stitch. Ill post pictures Monday. I'm here to help

Jimmy, does that yellow chalk show up on white vinyl?

I ran into a problem trying to transfer patterns to black Phifertex mesh for some window covers awhile back. Couldn't get anything to stick and/or be visible. Ran across the street to china Mart & bought a box of crayons. My orange crayon sacrificed most of it's life but got the job done! If only they made white Sharpies ...?

Someone mentioned "use good thread". Amen. That's the weak link in a cushion. A lotta customers get a lil carried away with their choice of cleaning solution, and then don't thoroughly rinse afterward. Goodbye polyester/nylon thread.

When I got into the business it was considered taboo to use monofilament thread a la "Tenara" on cushions. The old timers said that it would act like a ropesaw & cut through the stitchline. I've since debunked this theory. I use Tenara on everything.

..... If only they made white Sharpies ...?

FYI, they make silver Sharpies. They work great for marking on black...
