QD12 shift rod O ring replacement.

I am re-sealing the lower gear case on my QD12. How do I replace the o ring for the shift rod? Also any good suggetsions on removing the drive shaft seal, and the prop shaft seal? Should I use a sealer around the spaghetti seal, as well as the shaft seals?

Another question, should I use a thread sealer on the cylinder head bolts?

That o-ring can actually be replaced without removing the brass retainer.-----------Some will argue that it can not be done.------You could pull it out with a bolt after running a 5/16" tap in for 3 threads.----Or pull it out using 1/4" threaded rod with a filed down nut on it.

Well Im not sure if it can be taken out or not without removing the bushing, but it is so easy to remove the bushing Im not sure why you would want to try.

You can either buy a special tool for removing the bushing which works perfectly from the link I will post, or you can try to make one your own out of rod ground down. I have both. I much prefer Franks tool.

I add 3m 847 sealer around the circ of the seals, and the bushing, incase there are any imperfections in the casing. Also use it on the spaghetti seal, and the skeg bolt threads.

Cylinder head bolts get the OMC gasket sealing compound on them.

lol...not sure what HT uses for gasket material, but some how, he has my missing pair of scissors!!!

^^^ Funny, reminds me of my Admiral. "So that's where those are".

I made a seal removal tool from a 5/16" x 3.5" bolt. Ground off the threads and two edges off the head, then used a long rod to hit that.

I bought a roll of the cork gasket material at one time. I have since found it easier to buy them pre made.
