I have a 14ft aluminum boat with 40hp evinrude im thinking about putting gas tank in front of boat and maybe batterys since motor so heavy i dont want all wieght in back my questions are can i use regular hose at autozone for gas line or will i need somekind of plastic line like the ones that are used and will that be too far to run the electric wires and i also wanted to maybe put troller up front i think i have like a 10 gallon tank and i was going to use tractor batterys 1 for starting 1 for trolling and one for spare another question is battery boxes what could i make them out of im going to actually use a scooter battery deep cycle fortroller but same size as tractor battery any thoughts or answers would be nice i dont have alot of cash so im working on a budget right now

40 hp for a 14 ft boat is WAY to much motor. Not a Safe way to go.Max for that boat should prolly be around 25 hp. It's your life and your boat, but I can't assist on what I consider to be an unsafe situation.

Who is the MFG of the boat? What Yr is it? I'd be very interested in seeing a pic of the HIN plate on the boat! That's very unusual for a 14ft aluminum boat. If it is then I'll be the first to apologize and pitch right in to assist.

To a question i asked the reason i asked about the fuel line is because of the gas now has ethonal and i know acohol eats up rubber. I know i can probly only spend 20 on line from autozone how much would 14ft of the good hose cost thanks

Re: putting wieght in front of boat

I would not put the tank or the starting battery in the front on any boat to balance it out. There are other options. I would place the tank and starting battery at the transom for obvious reasons. AND you can easily put the trolling motor and battery in the front of the boat. You didn't specify if this setup was tiller steering or stick or what. So if it is tiller, maybe you could change it over to stick steering and then you would be in the front of the boat balancing everything out nicely... Like I stated there are other options to balancing a boat properly AND safely too...JMHO!

As long as it is actual fuel line you will be fine. The gas only contains up to 10% ethanol. Lots of older cars have rubber fuel line and they don't cause an issue for them. The only issue that you would have concerning ethanol is with E85, which contains 85% ethanol. Vehicles that can run that have to have a tank and lines made of an ethanol compatible plastic.
