Re: Pulling Engine, remove outdrive?

I am pulling my mercruiser type 1 165hp in a 1073 aristocraft19 today. the trim cylinders are off and the 6 nuts off, it came out about 1/4" and seems stuck. Do i have to do anything else or just keep prying and rocking?

Ayuh,... Is it shifted into Forward,..??

If so, Pull Harder...

Drive is out!!! gimbal is free but rough and one u joint a little loose. lots of oil in the top bellows, not sure what kind, spline was dry but not chewed up.
Questions: gimbal snap ring, none of my snap ring pliers fit, any tricks?
Question: gimbal puller, how to make or buy? saw on tech tips but wouldn't go to it.
Is there a seal that might leak alot on the gear housing?

Ayuh,... Bigger snap-ring pliers, or pry it out, 'n throw it away...
Question: gimbal puller, how to make or buy?
A piece of threaded rod, a washer bigger than the hole in the bearing, 'n an old sledgehammer head....
Slip the rod through the bearing, the big washer, 'n nut on the inside,...
Then the hammer head, 'n nut on the outside...
You just built a slide hammer...
Is there a seal that might leak alot on the gear housing?

The Big seal behind the u-joints is Bad...
That's all the oil outa the drive...

How much trouble is replacing that seal? I gotta do it. noticed when I drained the drive not much came out. also had a bad leaking valve cover gasket and changed it but haven't run since.
so now order that seal.
looked at the gimbal bearing and will replace it since it is rough, but where is the grease fitting for it? And on the puller, how do you get the washer behind the bearing? maybe a flat bar would go back there and put the all thread thru it.

you are on a thread where the fella has a OMC and is pulling a engine... You will more than likely get more responses if you start your own and tell your troubles
