propeller shaft end play

just checking my Evinrude 9.9 1980 e10rcnr ,To find that the end play on the propeller shaft is 0.021". I change the Timken cup and cone bearing , and the clearance stay the same... What should be the ideal end play for that shaft? Thank you for your comments. Ronald...on the Bonaventure river.....

I have never seen a specification for the end play. Several tolerance factors can stack up to influence the end play, positive or negative. Your 0.012" doesn't sound at all unreasonable to me. I say relax.

As stated----Relax.---There likely are more important things to worry about on that 40 year old motor.
