Did the previous owners use it at all in the winter? If they didn't they likely completely winterized it and didn't heat it at all during the winter.

I think that they did heat it and use it in the winter but I got mixed messages from the realtor when I asked that since it was an estate and I couldn't ask the actual owner.

If you have a local service contract then it really doesn't matter about the size of the tank. They could have just been on the route and had the propane company checking on it every month.

Yep good point...we aren't on the automatic refill arrangement but we should be. Instead, I estimate that it needs filling and have been pretty accurate, call the co-op from home to set up a date for them to fill it. We then go up there and realize they haven't filled it so then I have to start calling and calling to get them to finally show up. Even the first fill in August, I had to badger them to show up and fill it after we signed the contract.

When I was stationed in Hawaii, we lived in a private house that had propane for cooking and the local LP company automatically came around once a month and checked and filled as required.

Finally had a sec to call my LP company today. I asked her the current pricing but I blacked out as I ran the quick calc in my head. I'm pretty sure she said $4.60 something. $4.63 maybe?
