Hello all,

I have a 1999 130 HP Johnson outboard on my Wellcraft center console, and today on the intercoastal while I was accelerating I lost all power to the prop. Engine runs fine, just will not go in gear. At first I thought I had snapped the drive shaft, but after further inspection, water was still "peeing" out of the engine, so that couldn't be the problem. I checked the lower unit oil drain and found no evidence of small shards of metal. Also, the hub was still in tact and in good shape, so that can't be the problem either.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on?

Oh and the prop is locked, as in I cannot turn it by hand either direction while it is in neutral, forward, or reverse.

Any help/feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Maybe the drive shaft snapped under the waterpump, where the pinon bearing is?

Maybe, but that wouldn't explain as to why there were no metal fragments found in either the oil nor on the lower unit plug as it has a magnet on it.

sure it would. if it where a clean sudden break there might not be any fragments to stick to the magnet. take a soft mallet and try to give the prop a tap, strike it toward the bottom of a blade closest to the hub. so you dont damage the prop. dont hit it with all your force. just try either direction to see if it will move just a little. the shaft could have bent slightly and bound up. but i also had run aground once and did the very same, i gave it a nice smack and its been working since. dumb luck probably but worth a shot.
