Anyone know if a speedy sleeve is available for a "78" 7.5hp prop shaft? I replaced all the seals in the lower end in including the water pump. If they are available where would I look? I think the oil drip is around the prop shaft. Thanks in advance.

I would do a pressure and vaccum test on the lower end first.

Oil drip could also be unburnt 2 stroke oil draining from exhaust.

No it is not unburnt gas/oil. It has the distinct smell of gear oil and is fairly clean. I pulled it apart again today and it appears it's not leaking past the shaft seal. It had a little water around the gear housing cover. I removed the bearing carrier and cleaned everything installed new o ring behind the gear housing cover and retorqued the cover according to the manual. I refilled it with new gear oil and will run it tomorrow and check again.

Before the bearing carrier goes in with the new O-ring, clean the area very well, then spread a very light smear of a non-hardening av-perm gasket sealer or equiv on the O-ring and the surface that the ring slides on. This both lubes the ring to slide into position with scuffing/scratching, or rolling the ring on just on side, and aids in sealing.

Most all the OEM's have a similiar product and call for this in the manual.

Re: Prop Shaft Speedy Sleeve

I did a 10 psi pressure test on the LU today, my mighty vac broke so couldn't do a vacuum test. At 5 psi the only seal leaking is the shift shaft. I ordered a new one as I may have damaged the new one when I slid it down over the splines but it look okay. When I dropped the LU there was quite a bit of gear oil-water foam. How does the water-oil get into this cavity and come out the exhaust in the center of the prop???Any help is appreciated..
