I have an OMC stern drive with a Ford 302 motor, when in gear the prop does not turn, therefore the boat goes nowhere. Do you know why this might be happening?

Could be several reasons...the hub has slipped...your gears are shot...shifter isn't putting it in gear...

When you put the shifter in forward, can you spin the prop freely by hand?

What type of OMC drive is it? Cobra?

Yes it is a cobra 5.0 and yes when I put it in forward the prop spins freely. I have already taken the stern drive off and checked the dog clutch, it is fine, so I put the stern drive back on the boat. I also checked the prop, my prop is not spun , the hub is fine. I am waiting for the two tools they say you need to adjust the shifter cables.

What else have you done that would help a diagnosis.. having to drag information from you slows down the prognosis..

Moved you to OMC, it's not a prop issue it's a drive or cable issue

Lower shift cable is disconnected/broke/out of adjustment

Does shift plate move when throttle is moved FWD/REV?

Coupling splines?
Coupling itself
Bad shift cable
Toasted gears

Could be any of the above
