prop movement while trolling

When i troll with bow mount, i sometimes leave my main in the water and use to help steer. The propeller on main engine spins freely in the water, does that do any damage to the engine?

Yep. It works your trolling motor harder.

But not much.

You wear the gearcase more when backing away from the dock than you do in an hour of trolling.
