Archbuilder you should go checkout post #7152 in the (funny TLC needed adds on craigslist) thread. I think it is Fuggly's sister for sale. With a v8 already in her I believe. :becky:

General boating topics, first topic area of the system, I was commenting on a really ugly boat that is listed in a Craigs List Ad! I have seen a few of that particular one and man they are not Fuggly, they are flat Ugly! And it is NOT the same boat you are redoing.

LOL

I thought it was similar. Yeah I can see Clark and Ellen and the kids on the water in it now! That would be funny!!

Archbuilder....Great project and when you fell out of the boat all I could do was laugh and remember when "the ladder slipped, and I reached out to grab a branch of the tree, and the branch broke....all I could think of on the way down was, "This is gonna hurt." Nothing broke but black and blue...months ago...all healed now.

My question is your "gluing" the deck down. I have just finished cutting the ply and have sealed the underside and layed one layer of CSM to the underside. I had planned on using stainless steel screws to hold the deck down to the stringers as well as the 3/4" thick chines, and just run a thin bead of PB along the outside edge along the hull. Then tabbing with 1708. Then foaming and then 2 layers of CSM across the whole deck. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

I think you have a good plan Daniel. I use west systems six-10 to glue the deck down. I like the long working time and the fact that all you have to do is squeeze the trigger on the caulking gun. You can use PB, but be quick about it. The downside of the epoxy is the cost and the fact that you more or less have to stay off of it for 24 hours so it can fire off.

For those of you wondering, Woeisme and i have been doing a little bit of horse trading, a MC1 drive should be showing up at my office on Monday. It's upper half has the correct gear ratio for the inline 6. So between the two drives I should have enough pieces to make one correct drive....or so that is the plan. :D

By the way I spent the last 7 days at the lake. I was ready for some lake time and put some fuel through Miss Morgan. I drove over to a neighboring lake one day where one of my friends has a place. I took my first ride in his Skater 26' cat.....it is an amazing machine.

It is something of a cross between a plane and a boat. You don't just jump in this thing and drive it safely....he actually paid a guy who races this hull to fly in and teach him how to drive this boat. My friend is extremely detailed and has raced about everything you can race. So more or less a speed junky, but has been around long enough to have a very healthy respect for speed. I can see how it could be very dangerous in untrained hands. That being said it was a great ride, cruising best at about 80, very forgiving. Its funny when you take off, it has a lot of prop slip since it is set up for top end......almost sounds like two jet engines winding up.....it hooks up about 30, then just takes off. 40 to 70 there is a little porpoising, then she settles down into cruse. Most of the time we were in the 80's but he did creep her up to 95 once.......this is more or less 3/4 throttle. He has had her to 120 gps! Here is the power, merc of course!

I'll be back to Fuggly fairly soon, but I think that will be in the morning.....man it is hot right now!

Wow! So cool you go to ride in one of those things. I've seen a skater cat once or twice around me, and they look so awesome. Very fast and well built machines for sure.

Funny that that Bi-hull (haha) ends up in a tri-hull thread! No, seriously though, they are great boats. A good friend of mine just acquired a merc "horn motor" and is putting it on a skater. should be a 115+ MPH flyer. It gets cold up here so we like to either go fast, classic or comfortable during our ten weeks of boating.

Hello, I'm new here and just bought my first boat, a 1976 Glastron sportster and have been following along with a few other threads to learn as much as I can before I start working on mine. Hope you don't mind if I tag along on your rebuild.

I had some free time this afternoon, so I finished buffing out the bottom of the hull.....my arms are killing me! Next a little welding on the trailer for the bunks.

I started stripping down the trailer yesterday

I took all of the black rollers off first, the light gray colored ones required the help of the sawzal to get the rollers off. The gray ones were added later, the black rollers were factory. Here is a picture of the fine welding job they did putting on the brackets for the gray ones, yuck!

All OK trailers are required to have a minimium of 4' of bailing wire on them, and one nail used as a cotter key.

They also torched of the tops of some of the factory roller brackets, you can see the factory one next to the scabbed on brackets.

I was planing on the bunk bracket resting on the tops of the factory brackets, I ended up replacing 3 of them due to torching.

I also discovered some cracking of the welds where the tilt tounge meets the frame. (the vertical weld, top and bottom, both sides) I'll have to reweld and add some additional steel.

Here is a fuzzy pic of what the added brackets looked like once I got them off....you get the idea

It took a little grinding to get them off, but the poor welding made it a lot easier. After a lot of grinding I got the frame rails cleaned up fairly well.

Here is all the junk I took off.

By the way if anyone want the black roller pm me. They are in usable condition, but I don't have any use for them. I just finished up replacing the brackets that got torched and cut out the bunk brackets. I'm heading back out to do a little more prep work, then a little more welding.
