I had progressive on a small older camper I towed from Colorado to Alaska. Failed to see a frost heave, got airborne and snapped leaf springs on one side. Got repaired locally and got reimbursed from Progressive. They said the key was my pictures showing clear brake rather than wear...

I honestly can't believe you expect progressive to cover that, a little unreasonable don't you think? Just consider yourself lucky you were able to get a tow, my rig was too wide for the truck they sent.

LOL. Yet another reason why I love Foremost. I told the girl that my rig was a party barge on an immobilized trailer and had to go on a BIG rollback. They sent one that got it done. They continue to impress me with their service.

Of course ! What was I thinking expecting insurance to cover damage to my trailer when I paid extra for them to. I am so sorry boys. Not to mention I also paid for towing and they wouldn't tow me either.

Advice.

1, learn how insurance works.

2, pay a man to fix your trailer.

3, your towing statement doesn't make sense. You paid for towing and you even stated in your original post saying it got towed....


I don't know what your deductible is or what kind of trailer you have. But spring leaf packs are cheap. Might be cheaper to repair it at a shop than attempt to go through insurance.

You can buy "trailering insurance" through the big, on-water guys like, "BoatUS" or "Seatow". And, more importantly, you'll have "break-down" ins. on the water.

I just got the same thing as a rider on my homeowners, It was cheaper and easier than BoatUS.

Liberty Mutual was the ins. comp. They were very easy to deal with.

Does your car insurance pay for a new alternator when your alternator goes out? Does it pay for a new tire?
And on the towing - not sure how progressive works, but with state farm it is a reimbursment - I pay for the tow send them the receipt and they send me a check. They don't arrange for towing, if you want that then you need AAA

Another thing to throw out there... Most folks are paying for roadside assistance added on their cell phone and dont realize it. Most never use it. They usually put it on there unless you ask to take it off. I think it is like $6.00 per month.

Well I'm certainly not alone in my thinking... look next time something routinely goes wrong with your trailer I suggest taking the whole rig to the ditch and telling progressive that a deer ran out in front of you, maybe then they will take care of it but until that happens routine maintenance is on you. You might wanna go ahead and check your tires and bearings progressive is going to cover those either.

Anna, it's important to understand the distinction between wear and damage. Your leaf springs weren't damaged, they were merely worn out. That's why they broke. Insurance coverage is not intended to fix things that broke because they were worn out. If it were, most of us wouldn't be able to afford it. Now, if your trailer or tow vehicle was otherwise damaged in an accident caused by the broken leaf springs that damage might be covered, but only your insurance company could say for sure.

As for the tow; I'm not sure why they didn't cover that if you have tow coverage. I'd suggest taking it up with your agent. My experience has always been that the tow was covered (truck or trailer) regardless of the reason I needed it, but, not all coverage is the same. In any case, there is no reason why your leaf spring replacement should be covered, and even if there were, your deductible would likely far exceed the cost of the repair job. I hope you don't think we're making fun of you. It just sounds like you're unclear as to exactly how insurance coverage works. It would be in your best interest to sit down and carefully go over your policy with your agent.

Thanks for the advice and kind words guys. I've switched insurances and next time I'll make sure it's a collision that I claim happened! : ) Fortunately we bout a secondary insurance with US boats that covered the tow. Thanks for the input !
