I doubt it is a carb problem but the part on the side that holds up to it always gets loose. It's right beside the starter to. The bolts aren't holdiing anymore, there stripped. What is this for exactly? If I remove it, what it will do?

My 40HP Lark 8 still runs like a champ for a 44 years old! I want to save it.

It's part of the choke. Does the choke work at all?

The electric choke, I don't think so, I push down the choke switch at the ignition and doesn't seem to do anything. These motors have 2 chokes?

Can I still use the manual choke for cold starts? I think it will cost a bit to much just for the electric/automatic choke repairs. When I stop the motor for a few mins or even half hour, it restarts instantly.

If you don't want to fix it, just use the manual choke. You probably should remove the automatic choke to prevent more damage from vibrating around in there.

I remove it this morning and run it this afternoon using the manual choke, it starts better! I don't think it's worth it for the age of the engine, did also a compression test and I have 95-100 PSI on both cylinders but it still runs very strong. Maybe a de-carb could help to bring it a bit back up, I had 105 before the season.

I really like your boat. My favorite color is green! The lark 8 looks nice on it, too. I personally would try to fix the electric choke. Perhaps there's enough material left to drill and tap it to the next size bolt threads. You might also find another choke at aomci.org's free classified site. I'll bet that choke was used all the way up to at least '69, because I think my '69 40 had it too. It would be much nicer to not have to go back there and use the manual choke.
