Priming rebuilt carb

How do i prime. Starts but then shuts down. Is there air in the system?

Ayuh,.... The fuel pump should fill the carb in seconds, if the rest of the fuel system is up to snuff,....

I have a 14' fuel line. Squeeze the rubber black ball until it becomes firm and round. Carb is then fully primed.

What are you working on?

Electric or mechanical fuel pump?

If it starts you have fuel.

Does it start, and die as soon as you stop cranking? That is electrical in nature

Does it start and run for about 30 seconds? That is fuel supply in nature

I did put a little gas in the long slot that says where float is. ran for 10 or 15 seconds then stalls.will do the same without putting gas in carb . It is mechanical fuel pump. Im thinking putting a bulb to prime new fuel line then removing. i replaced plugs, cap,rotor,wires .before rebuilt carb came to upgrade. Sounded nice when running for 10 seconds after pumping throttle 2x. same issue i sent for carb rebuild. If battery is older but charged can that be an issue. Any thoughts?

I have always made sure fuel tank has gas and fuel/water separator is full of GAS. This helps fuel pump prime lines, carburetor bowl, etc. Then, I would squirt some gas into carb and have buddy crank engine. Have large rag or fire extinguisher nearby incase carb leaks or motor backfires.

All new gas and fuel line. When you say pour into carb . Pour into large area that goes to butterfly or just slot to resevoir?

When you add the Primer bulb ? Do not remove it. That way you will always have a spare way to keep the engine running. If the pump dies in the middle of nowhere at Midnight.

pour an ounce or so down throat. Work carb linkage by hand.

Bad advice on an I/O. It's against the colregs on fuel systems
