Primer Bulb

One of those moments with an added facepalm, makes sense but didn't think about the actual actions of the bulb and valves, mine with the metal valves pumped air no matter which way it pointed. Thanks for this insight and info

Yeah, that in the video makes sense completely about the mechanics of the bulbs but I can remember (yeah giving away my general age here LOL) back when these gizmos would work no matter which direction they were pointed, I guess it's more cases of the blunders of modern technology

You bought a cheap primer ball. Evinrude does not use hose clamps on theirs. Go buy a quality one.

Well they also had a Mercury hose and bulb set, only difference was the ends / tank connections. The one I pictured was after me installing the known good metal valves. The Evinrude unit came with straps in place that locked on with some sort of gizmo at the factory and once removed was not reusable, I installed the clamps, sorry for any misunderstanding

I don't recall, the only thing I was after was the bulb and I didn't even use the fuel line that came with it, instead I used up the remainder of the injection rated hose I had left over from my Mercedes project. I know this is way overkill with 200psi hose but it was just laying around in the garage gathering dust. To protect any exposed fuel line, betwixt the engine and the transom I could fit a length of conduit I have here

Couple of things…
The seperator is not in the correct location in the delivery system.

The correct order is tank - separator - primer bulb - motor.

Fuel must be “sucked” thru the separator, not pumped thru the seperator.

The separator must be full of fuel or you will never get it the bulb to work.

Pull the fuel line from the fuel pump and try pumping the bulb.

The primer bulb must be held with arrows pointing to sky. Holding it level doesn’t cut it

I have a Racor SNAPP filter/separator I am getting ready to install and was wondering which side to put the primer bulb on. Thanks for this timely post!

I have been holding it upward when trying to get it going, but thank you for the suggestion.

The boat not been used for over a year, when i tried to prime the Fuel Bulb nothing messed around for over a week, then i came across your Post went straight out held the Fuel Bulb arrow facing upwards and a couple of pumps bang fuel everywhere, Thanks.
